Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: 13 Days (Larry Tracy III)
/The game we’ve all been waiting since the season ended with the Gator Bowl on January 2nd is almost here. Just one college football Saturday without Hoosier football remains. On October 24th, we get the first look at the 2020 IU football squad as they take on Penn State at The Rock.
With 13 days to play, we will feature two guys who will wear the No. 13 jersey on both sides of the ball in 2020– first Larry Tracy III, and Miles Marshall later today.
Name – Larry Tracy III
Position – Defensive Back (Redshirt Freshman)
Hometown –Indianapolis, Indiana (Decatur Central)
Height – 5’11”
Weight – 181 pounds
Keeping talent in-state has been something Tom Allen and coaching have done a great job of, and the commitment of Decatur Central standout Larry Tracy as part of the 2019 recruiting class is proof of that.
Ranked the No.6 recruit in Indiana by Rivals, Tracy totaled 292 tackles, 218 solo, four sacks, 31 TFLs, eight interceptions, 28 pass breakups, 11 fumble recoveries, eight forced fumbles and three blocked field goals at Decatur Central. The 3-star recruit (247 Sports) led the Hawks to conference championships all four years, and to its first state title his senior year— when he caught 14 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown that earned him 2018 All-USA Indiana team selection.
Tracy made an appearance in one game last season, against Eastern Illinois and utilized the redshirt. Especially after hearing of his offseason progress by Coach Shelby, it sounds like it’s very likely Tracy will see the field more in 2020 and beyond.
“One guy that really keeps doing a great job is Larry Tracey III,” Shelby told the media in last month’s press conference, “He keeps making plays. As a freshman, he was kind of scatter-brained, but you can understand that. He has locked in, gotten into the college, started to understand the flows of college and he is locked into football. I see a totally different change in him on and off the field. I am excited for him and the process he is doing to give himself an opportunity to go play. I know in that family that football is important, and I think that he is settling into who he is on and off the football field. I am really excited for the future for him.”
