Mark Hagen, who has served as Indiana’s defensive line coach since 2016, is headed to take the same position with the University of Texas. On Friday afternoon Hagen posted a farewell statement on Twitter:

Hoosier Nation

I want to thank Tom Allen. It was a tremendous opportunity to come home and help rebuild the defense. Tom has built an unbelievable culture with Indiana Football in a short amount of time. This program is on a trajectory that it has not been on in a long time, one that I was fortunate to be a part of as a player back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. There is a quiet confidence among the coaches, players, and staff - a confidence that is definitely going to keep building. The eight-win season last year was jjust the beginning, with bigger and better things on the horizon. I appreciate what Indiana University and the football program have always done for the Hagen family. IU has always been home, and I am forever grateful to be a part of this. I am excited about my new opportunity, but will miss Bloomington and Indiana Football. Go Hoosiers!

Coach Hagen

This was Hagen’s second stint as a coach with the Hoosiers as he was part of Kevin Wilson’s staff from 2011-2012 before leaving for Texas A&M. Hagen was also a star player for the Hoosiers at linebacker from 1989-91 and finished his career fifth on IU’s all-time tackles made list with 336. Over his two stints as a coach for the Hoosiers, Hagen helped the Hoosiers to two bowl appearances in his six seasons.

This is the third coaching change for the Hoosiers in the 2020 off-season. The Hoosiers promoted Nick Sheridan to offensive coordinator after Kalen DeBoer took the head coaching position at Fresno State. The Hoosiers also brought in Kevin Wright to coach the tight ends and Jason Jones to coach safeties after promoting Kasey Teegardin to special teams coordinator after William Inge follow DeBoer to Fresno State as his defensive coordinator.
