Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: 74 Days (Nick Marozas)

The 2020 version of the Hoosier Huddle Countdown is well underway. The pessimist may say that we still have roughly 75% of this long process to go before the season begins. However, the optimist will say that we are already 25% of the way! Today’s profile, number 74, focuses on a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman: Nick Marozas.
Name – Nick Marozas
Position – Offensive Line
Hometown – Redshirt Sophomore from Chicago, IL (Brother Rice High School)
Height – 6’5”
Weight – 286 pounds
Nick Marozas was a four-year starter on the offensive line for Brother Rice in Chicago and his play earned him all-league honors. He was a three-year captain for his school and was named the offensive MVP in 2017. Marozas came to Indiana and redshirted his 2018 season. In 2019, he did not see any game action. Now, as a redshirt sophomore, IU has a need for offensive line depth and players like Marozas are going to be relied upon to provide it.
At 6’5”, Marozas has the height that teams like at the tackle position. The starters for that position are almost certainly going to be Caleb Jones at right tackle and Matthew Bedford at left tackle. However, after those two, there are question marks about the depth. Marozas will be battling with redshirt freshmen Tim Weaver and Mike Katic, redshirt sophomore Aidan Rafferty and veteran Britt Beery. The staff is certainly hoping to find answers from that group so they can redshirt newcomers Luke Haggard and Luke Wiginton.
Indiana’s coaches have continued to pursue a transfer that can provide immediate veteran depth along the line and if they can grab the right player, it becomes increasingly unlikely Marozas will be able to crack the rotation. If not, it is very possible the redshirt sophomore from Chicago can get in the mix. He still has three years of eligibility left so regardless of what happens in 2020, Marozas still has plenty of time to make a mark in Bloomington.
