The 2019 Hoosier Huddle Countdown is very nearly complete! It has been a grind dear reader but we have made it through together and there are only three days remaining until the Indiana Hoosiers take the field against the Ball State Cardinals. Today’s countdown article focuses on a junior wide receiver that is expected to be a key part of the wide receiver rotation: Ty Fryfogle.

The Indiana Hoosiers have had a lot of success recruiting Florida. There are also quite a few players from the Hoosier State, Georgia and Ohio. Ty Fryfogle is a bit unique though. He is only the second current Hoosier from the state of Mississippi. The junior wideout joins redshirt junior defensive tackle Jerome Johnson as the only players to hail from the birthplace of Darth Vader (James Earl Jones voiced the iconic villain) and Oprah Winfrey. He came to Bloomington after a successful high school career at George County High School where he earned first-team honors and set his school’s receptions and yardage records. In addition to his success on the gridiron, Fryfogle was on the basketball team for two seasons. While he had recruiting attention from several programs, he was drawn to Indiana due to a family connection. His father, Trey Fryfogle, played at Ole Miss and was a teammate of Indiana wide receivers coach Grant Heard. The relationship was enough to convince Ty that Indiana was the place for him.

He played in eight games as a freshman, grabbing just one reception for 13 yards. His sophomore season saw him begin to emerge as a legitimate threat for the Hoosiers. During the 2018 season, he caught 29 passes for 381 yards with three touchdowns. Fryfogle is a burner on the outside and he is capable of helping out in the slot as well. While he is behind seniors Nick Westbrook and Donavan Hale and slot receiver Whop Philyor, Ty Fryfogle is firmly placed with the second wave of receivers (along with Miles Marshall and David Ellis) and he will see plenty of action. A fair expectation is probably to see him slightly elevate his reception and yardage total as a key part of the passing game and continue to develop his game so that he can step into the starting lineup as a senior in 2020.

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown continues for two more days so check back soon to see the conclusion of the 2019 “offseason”!
