/Written by Evan McShane (@veryreasonable)
On this Memorial Day we want to remember all those who laid it all on the line and paid the ultimate price for the country we live in. Thank you, for your service and sacrifice.
There are now 96 days until the Hoosiers kickoff their 2019 season at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Ball State Cardinals.
2019 Countdown - #96
Name – Shamar Jones
Position – Defensive Line (Redshirt Freshman)
Hometown – Johnstown, PA (Greater Johnstown)
Height – 6’1”
Weight – 284
Shamar Jones committed to the Hoosiers in the fall of 2017 and used his redshirt during the 2018 season. Jones hails from Johnstown, Pennsylvania where he was a three-star defensive tackle at Greater Johnstown High School. Coming into college at 6-foot-1, 284lbs, Jones used his redshirt season to bulk up for the trenches of the Big Ten.
Jones enjoyed a decorated career in high school, winning back-to-back district championships and earning a top-30 ranking in the state of Pennsylvania according to ESPN. His selection of Indiana over a number of other schools continues a recent tradition for Tom Allen and his staff: recruiting multi-sport athletes. Jones exceled in not only football, he also lettered in basketball and track and field. Surrounded by a family of athletes, two of Jones’ uncles played in the NFL, Artrell and Andrew Hawkins.
There will be ample opportunity to carve out a role on the Hoosiers’ 2019 defensive front. Jones can use his size and skill to anchor the middle and provide a fresh body in the rotation. Keeping guys fresh on the defensive line is a key to success in the Big Ten and Shamar Jones’ presence will undeniably help.
