/Written by Andrew Walker
The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is in its final leg. Under three weeks remain until the Hoosiers kickoff the 2019 season in Indianapolis against the Ball State Cardinals. Today we will highlight DB Raheem Layne.
Raheem Layne (Junior)
Height: 6’1
Weight: 198 lbs
Hometown: Deland, Florida
Position: Cornerback
The cornerback position group is one of the most challenging position groups on the entire gridiron. But when you watch Raheem Layne play the position, you’d think he does it with ease. Layne hopes to continue his defensive dominance in the 2019 season under Kane Wommack’s fast defensive scheme.
Layne made seven starts and played all 12 games at cornerback last season for the Hoosiers, some of his most notable accomplishments from the 2018 season include: 39 total tackles (4th), 31 solo tackles (4th), and three passes deflected. The 6’1 cornerback hails from Sebastian River high school in Deland, Florida where he racked up countless accolades. The three year football letterwinner was ranked no. 58 of all high school cornerbacks by ESPN. Raheem was also a two-time defensive player of the week and one-time special teams player of the week in 2018 for the Hoosiers. Layne will more than likely start all games for Indiana in 2019, and he’ll be joined by Marcelino Ball as another notable DB for the Hoosiers.
