Height: 6’2”
Weight: 263 pounds
Hometown: Fresno, TX (Manvel High School)
Class/Position: RS Freshman/Defensive End
Alfred Bryant came to Indiana as a player with the potential to be a terror on the edge. After redshirting the 2017 season the big Texan is ready to be a difference maker for the Hoosiers. At Manvel H.S. in Fresno, Texas, Bryant was a two-time all-district selection in three seasons of football. During his three seasons of varsity football Bryant’s team went an impressive 55-5 record including two district titles, three-straight regional final appearances and an appearance in the 2015 state title game. Bryant filled the stat sheet well with 22 sacks, 38 tackles for loss, 86 quarterback hurries, 120 tackles, three fumble recoveries, including one touchdown return, and one forced fumble.
Heading into the 2018 season, the expectations are high for Bryant to help replace the production lost with the graduation of Greg Gooch and Robert McCray. With the return of IU’s best pass rusher Nile Sykes, Bryant will have a fight on his hands to claim a starting spot, but seeing that Tom Allen and company want to rely more on a rotation in 2018, Bryant should have plenty of opportunity to see the field.
