Indiana football’s summer has been filled with speculation regarding who will earn the starting quarterback position. The competition between Mike Penix, Brandon Dawkins, and Peyton Ramsey has been fierce. Working behind this trio and likely making an impact on the scout team will be redshirt freshman Johnny Pabst. Although his Hoosier career has been short, he did make an impact in April’s spring game. Pabst hit Whop Philyor for a long touchdown to conclude the game and drew glowing reviews from CBS Sports Kent Sterling on Twitter: “IU QB Johnny Pabst has shown the flashes in the IU Spring Game we’ve heard about. Telling you – don’t sleep on him. Does everything right.” (@KentSterling)
Pabst had an impressive high school career at Illinois’ Niles West High School. He finished his career with 5100 passing yards, 38 passing touchdowns, 1550 rushing yards, and 20 rushing touchdowns. He was named an Esmark All-American. Pabst was a tri-sport athlete, also competing and earning Academic All-Conference honors in basketball and baseball. He studies public financial management at IU’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
