COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: #67- Charles Campbell

Height: 5’8’’
Weight: 175 pounds
Hometown: Jackson, Tennessee (University School of Jackson)
Year: Freshman
Position: Kicker

When Griffin Oakes graduated, he left big shoes to fill. Finding a decent kicker to replace him became just as important as filling any other position. Coach Allen’s commitment to recruiting for special teams proved itself with Charles Campbell’s commitment to IU within hours of his offer.

Ranked 9th kicker in the country by 247 Sports, the Army All-American has the potential to shine in the Big Ten. The Tennessee native hit 168-of-176 extra points and 23-of-38 field goals at University School of Jackson. Campbell’s goal going into the fall is to be the “clear cut, number one guy.”

His senior season was a struggle, as he made just under half (6-of-13) of his field goals and had only 12 of 54 kickoffs go for touchbacks. Transitioning to college, the 5’8” 175 lb. kicker plans to work on his technique.

“I need to visualize myself in situations, like if I have the game-winning kick, I need to visualize myself in practice kicking the game-winning kick” Campbell said in an interview with Hoosier Huddle.

Kohl’s Kicking Camp ranked Campbell at 8th in the country for kickers in the Class of 2018 and put him as a 5-star prospect. The transition to the big stage will undoubtedly be a challenge, but Campbell’s got the talent and work ethic to help take Indiana football to the next level.

Campbell will have to beat out Logan Justus and Jared Smolar who both had inconsistent springs, but have game experience at the college level.
