Countdown to 2018 IUFB Kickoff: 66 Days (Stevie Scott)
/Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)
Countdown to Kickoff: #66 – Stevie Scott
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 235 pounds
Hometown: Syracuse, NY (Christian Brothers Academy)
Class/Position: FR/RB
The Hoosiers dipped into New York State to secure the big running back out of Syracuse who was a one-time Rutgers commit. Scott played both running back and linebacker at the Upstate power Christian Brothers Academy, however IU is going to use him on offense rather than defense because of what he can bring to the table on that side of the ball. The Indiana backfield lacks a big bruising running back who can help wear down a defense late in the game. Scott can do that and more. During his junior season in 2016 he ran for over 1,400 yards and 21 touchdowns at CBA.
The Hoosier running back room is pretty deep heading into 2018, with Morgan Ellison, Cole Gest, Ricky Brookins, Ronnie Walker, Mike Majette and Craig Nelson all back. But in today’s college game a team needs to have a handful of capable runners. With the new redshirt rule in place in 2018, Scott could be able to get his feet wet and gain important game reps while still keeping the extra year of eligibility.
