Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 30 Days (Noah Pierre)

#30

The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is over halfway complete. We are inside one month until the Hoosiers kickoff the 2018 season on the road against Florida International University. Today we will highlight a member of the most recent recruiting class, Noah Pierre. (Pierre will actually wear #19 this season).

Noah Pierre (Freshman)

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 172 Pounds

Hometown: Hialeah, FL

Position: Defensive Back

A surprise addition to the early signing period portion of Indiana’s 2018 recruiting class came in Noah Pierre, a defensive back from Champagnat Catholic – Hialeah High School in Florida. Pierre was a high school teammate of the Hoosier’s latest verbal commitment for the upcoming 2019 class, offensive tackle Michael Cartwright. Pierre played safety in high school and was ranked as a 3-star prospect by most recruiting services. He is known for his speed and big-hit ability when breaking up passes. In his senior season, Pierre collected 45 tackles, 30 solo, five for loss, a team-high four interceptions (110 yards), two forced fumbles and nine pass breakups as his team won the 2017 FHSAA 2A state championship.

It will be interesting to see what position Pierre winds up playing for Indiana. Although primarily a safety in high school, he projects more as a cornerback or even a candidate for the husky position in college. However, especially in order to play the husky in the Big Ten, Pierre will have to add size to his frame. In the past, he would likely be a player that would see little to no playing time in his debut season, not because of a lack of talent but rather a lack of size. However, with the introduction of this season’s new transfer rule, Pierre will be a prime candidate to see action in up to four games and still be able to redshirt. It would not surprise me to see him make an appearance on special teams; he has speed and returned a punt for a touchdown in high school.
