Countdown to Kickoff: #12 – Reese Taylor

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 183 pounds

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN (Ben Davis)

Class/Position: Freshman/Athlete

The Indiana Hoosiers currently have the 2017 Mr. Basketball (Romeo Langford) and Mr. Football (Reese Taylor) residing in Bloomington. Reese Taylor was a high level three-star recruit labelled as an athlete despite playing primarily quarterback in high school. Taylor played for Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. He was selected a two-time IFCA first team all-state during his prolific high school football career. As a senior, Taylor led Ben Davis to a state title in a dominant 63-14 victory. Ben Davis went undefeated 14-0 while earning a top-five national ranking when it was all said in don in 2017.

Despite standing just 5-foot-11 and 180-pounds, Reese completed nearly 73-percent of his passes for 3,150 yards and 40 touchdowns – a school record. Taylor also rushed for over 800 yards and 15 touchdowns. Ben Davis’ offense averaged over 47 points-per-game and 501 passing yards-per-game. Taylor holds the school records for career passing yard (7,631) and passing touchdowns (79). Ben Davis was absolutely unstoppable with Reese Taylor playing quarterback.

Landing Taylor was a major priority for Tom Allen and the Hoosiers’ coaching staff. Largely due to his lack of size, Taylor will not be likely to see any snaps at quarterback – especially with the emergence of Mike Penix Jr. as a potential starter. The plan for Taylor is to play cornerback for the Hoosiers. While he is still learning techniques and schemes, Taylor is such an impressive athlete he will adapt to whatever position he’ll be required to play. Coach Allen and DeBord will probably try to get the ball in Taylor’s hands offensively because he is such a dangerous weapon. It’s possible to see Taylor spend time as a returner, playing in the slot, or receiving hand-offs. How he will do it, we’re not yet sure; but Hoosier fans should look for Taylor to develop into a major impact player of the course of his career at IU.

EDITORS NOTE: Reese Taylor will be wearing the number 2 this season
