Name – Kahlil Benson

Position – Offensive Lineman

Hometown/High School – Southaven, MS/Southaven

247 Composite Ranking – 3 star – 86.47

Indiana’s coaching staff made the offensive line a priority in this recruiting class. They wanted to have at least five quality prospects and were open to taking as many as seven. On the first signing day, the Hoosiers added Luke Haggard, Luke Wiginton, Cameron Knight, Brady Feeney and Randy Holtz as well as graduate transfer Dylan Powell. The late signing period brings the addition of offensive line prospect Khalil Benson. A six-foot-six, 305-pound prospect from just outside of Memphis, Benson chose IU over heavy pursuit from Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Kentucky. He visited Indiana and fell in love with the family atmosphere that has been cultivated by Tom Allen and his players and ultimately preferred the Hoosiers over Mike Leach’s Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Benson took a visit to Bloomington in January and in an interview with Matt Weaver of Peegs.com said that “I loved everything about it. I had a good time with the coaches and the players. I don’t know if I can say exactly what I liked about it because everything was awesome.”

Benson is has experience at both tackle and guard but he is expected to be tried at guard first. This is a big addition to the class and he comes in as the fourth-highest ranked recruit, according to the 247Sports Composite. Benson will probably be expected to see some action in 2020 in reserve duty but it seems unlikely that he will redshirt the season and be developed to start in the future.
