2024 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 61 Days (Roman Purcell)

Written By Nick Gonzales (@nrgonzales_)

The 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown to kickoff continues with 61 days until the start of the Hoosier’s football season! Every day, we take a look at players on the current roster and highlight their roles in the upcoming season. Today we are looking at quarterback Roman Purcell.

Name: Roman Purcell

Hometown: Bedminster, New Jersey (Indian Creek)

Position: Quarterback

Year: Redshirt Junior

Height/Weight: 6’1”/214 pounds

Social Media: Twitter: (@roman12purcell)

Purcell isn’t one to stay in one place for too long. He is from Bedminster, New Jersey and spent his freshman year of high school playing for St. Peter’s Prep. He then moved to Indiana and attended Cathedral his sophomore year, Warren Central his junior year, and Indian Creek his senior year. He led Indian Creek to it’s first Conference Title in school history.

He has some impressive arm talent and can throw the ball deep when needed. But his arm isn’t the only thing that stands out about Purcell. It’s his elusive feet and playmaking ability. During his senior season at Indian Creek, he carried the ball 119 times and recorded 1,526 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns! He is quick on his feet and very agile. Purcell’s intelligence shows with his decision making as a dual-threat quarterback. Sadly, an injury during a high school game knocked him off the radar of many FBS teams.

Purcell ended up at Army for a season in 2020 where he didn’t appear in a game and redshirted. He continued to move around until he got the chance he deserved and headed to the junior college level playing for Monroe College in 2021 where he performed in nine games. He persisted in his journey and was seen as a talented backup at North Carolina A&T in 2022. He decided to come back to Indiana in 2023 as a transfer walk-on for the Hoosiers and did not see any game action.

He’ll serve as a depth piece once again this year, but he’s still giving it his all. He loves football and is still waiting for a chance in the spotlight on the collegiate level. Purcell is a talented piece in the depth chart and hopefully Cignetti can implement a spot for him this year on the gridiron.

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff continues with Day 60 tomorrow!
