Written by: Zachary Greene

Welcome, Hoosiers fans to the 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! We countdown from 100 days to the beginning of the 2024 Indiana University football season on August 31st against Florida International University. Every day, we look at players on the current roster and highlight the players' roles in the upcoming season. Today we dive into freshman linebacker from Fishers, Indiana, Carter Imes.

Name: Carter Imes (https://x.com/CarterImes41)

Hometown: Fishers, Indiana

High School : Fishers HS

Position: Linebacker

Year: Freshman

Imes joins the program standing at six foot, 200 pounds after an inspiring, and scary, high school journey.

During his sophomore year at Fishers High School, Imes played football and basketball. During an off-season pick up basketball session, Imes noticed pain and tingling down his right calf. After some doctors visits, he was diagnosed with popliteal artery entrapment syndrome which mostly occurs in 50,60, and 70 year olds. Thus, he had surgery on June 1st, 2022 and was told and felt like he would never step on the field again.

His story was told in the Indianapolis Star.

That turned out to be motivation for Imes as his coaches and teammates convinced him to still be a part of the program. So he grabbed a whistle and helped coach the linebackers. In the meantime, he got cleared and started lifting weights.

His story is like his father’s. Andy Imes was a star player at Lawrence North High School and played under Bill Malory during the 1987 season. In a devastating turn of events, he fractured a bone in his back and was forced to retire. Malory also encouraged him to stay with the program as a coach.

This season, Imes will look to make an impact on the practice field and in the locker room. His mindset and skill set are there. But it will take him a couple years to take the field during a game. Let’s see how his journey in Bloomington turns out. He’s got an amazing head on his shoulders.
