Written By Ben Gillard

Welcome, Hoosier fans to the 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! Over the next 100 days the Hoosier Huddle staff will feature every player on the 2024 roster in anticipation of the season opener on August 31st against the FIU Golden Panthers. Today, we look at Old Dominion transfer Terry Jones Jr.

COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: # 29 – Terry Jones Jr.

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 200 pounds

Hometown: Baltimore, Maryland

High School: Mergenthaler Vocational Tech

Class/Position: Redshirt Senior / Defensive Back

The son of former Baltimore Ravens tight end and grandson of longtime Alabama strength and conditioning coach, both also named Terry Jones, Jones Jr. joins the Hoosiers following five seasons at Old Dominion.

As a freshman, Jones appeared in four games for the Monarchs, totaling two special teams tackles before redshirting. He gained another year of eligibility the following year when ODU canceled their 2020 football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his sophomore season in 2021, Jones appeared in all 13 games and started the final 6. He burst onto the scene with 11 tackles in his first collegiate start, eventually totaling 69 tackles and 3 TFLs with 3 double-digit tackle games.

Jones built upon this success in his junior and senior seasons, where he totaled 63 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, two interceptions, and forced a fumble as a junior, and 107 tackles, 4 TFLs, and forced a fumble as a senior, earning him an All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention.

Perhaps the most important aspect that Jones brings to the Hoosiers is his leadership and veteran presence. In a secondary that lost Louis Moore and Phillip Dunnam, Jones brings years of experience, which will help the underclassmen and new transfers to play at a high level. Look for Jones to be a leader in IU’s secondary this season.
