2024 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 19 Days (Josh Sanguinetti)
/Written By Nick Gonzales (@nrgonzales_)
The 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown to kickoff continues with 19 days until the start of the Hoosier’s football season! Every day, we take a look at players on the current roster and highlight their roles in the upcoming season. With just a few weeks left for our countdown, today we are looking at number 19, defensive back Josh Sanguinetti.
Name: Josh Sanguinetti
Hometown: Lauderdale Lakes, Florida (University School)
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Redshirt Senior +
Height/Weight: 6’1”/194 pounds
Social Media: Twitter: (@J3_era)
In his final year of eligibility, Sanguinetti will be fighting every minute he’s on the field. Sanguinetti appeared in all 12 games last season, starting in four of them. In 2023 he recorded 19 total tackles (11 solo, 0.5 TFL), 2 passes defended, 2 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries. This year he’ll be hoping to make a big impact for the Hoosiers.
He’s been in Bloomington since 2019, but before choosing to attend IU, he visited Michigan, Oregon, and Miami before later visiting Indiana on February 1st, 2019, and committing just five days later. Out of high school, ESPN ranked Sanguinetti a four-star prospect and the 25th ranked safety nationally. He earned first-team all-state selection and was the school’s all-time leader in interceptions with 24. He was a four-time all-county honoree, Polynesian Bowl All-American, and was named to the Broward County Super 11. He's a talented player and will be relied on more during this upcoming season.
Sanguinetti is a speedy player with catlike reflexes that can disrupt an offense. While Indiana has a great front seven, their defensive backfield isn’t as strong as it could be at the moment. Sanguinetti must step up and be a leader around his fellow DBs. He has played for the Hoosiers for the past five seasons and is surrounded by transfers and other younger defensive backs. With the season approaching, make sure to keep Sanguinetti’s name in mind because when he’s on the field, his goal is to disrupt plays and assist the Hoosiers to victory.
The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kickoff continues with Day 18 tomorrow!
