2024 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 18 Days (Solomon Vanhorse)

Written By Ben Gillard

Welcome, Hoosier fans to the 2024 Hoosier Huddle Countdown! Over the next 100 days the Hoosier Huddle staff will feature every player on the 2024 roster in anticipation of the season opener on August 31st against the FIU Golden Panthers. Today, we look at redshirt junior defensive lineman Andrew Turvy and James Madison transfer Solomon Vanhorse.

COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: # 18 – Solomon Vanhorse

Height: 5’8”

Weight: 185 pounds

Hometown: Alpharetta, Georgia

High School: Milton

Class/Position: Graduate + / Running Back/Return Specialist

The son of former Chargers and Lions cornerback Sean Vanhorse, Solomon Vanhorse has spent the past 6 seasons with James Madison before following Coach Cig to IU.

Over the course of his 6 seasons with the Dukes, Vanhorse appeared in 37 games with 9 starts, where he rushed for 599 yards and 7 TDs as well as having 590 receiving yards and 7 TDs.

In addition to his snaps at RB, Vanhorse proved himself to be a powerful punt and kickoff return specialist, something the Hoosiers desperately needed following the departure of Jaylin Lucas. In 2020 vs. Towson, Vanhorse became just the 39th FBS or FCS player since 1996 to record a kick return TD, a rushing TD, and a receiving TD in a single game.

Vanhorse has been somewhat injury prone throughout his career, however, missing the final eight games of the 2022 season, and only playing one game in 2023 before missing the 12 remaining games to injuries. If he can stay healthy, Vanhorse can be the go-to return man as well as a speed-in-space gadget guy for the Hoosiers in 2024.
