2024 Countdown to IUFB Kickoff: 15 Days (Nic Toomer)

Written By Sammy Jacobs (@Hoosier_Huddle)

In two weeks Hoosiers fans will be double checking their tailgate lists and packing the car up for the trip to Bloomington for the Hoosiers opener against FIU. With 15 days to go until kickoff we take a look at defensive back Nic Toomer, who enters his second season with IU.

COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: #15 Nick Toomer

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 199 pounds

Hometown: Tyrone, Georgia (Sandy Creek)

Class/Position: RS Senior/ Defensive Back

Nic Toomer is one of the more important and versatile players for the IU defense as he can play both safety and corner. The redshirt senior will battle for the free safety job with Shawn Ashbury.

Toomer has 29 games of experience in his career. Last season he started seven times and played in eight games, but missed four due to injury.  In those eight games, Toomer made 26 tackles, one interception and three tackles for loss.

He has good length and coverage instincts and is best suited as a free safety in Haines’ defense. However, with some early depth injuries to the cornerbacks room, Toomer could be used to bolster that position group.
