The Hoosier Huddle Countdown continues! The season is less than 40 days away, and fans cannot wait to see this team on the field.  Indiana Football will open up their 2021 season at Iowa City to take on the #16 ranked Hawkeyes on September 4th. Both teams have been putting in a ton of work to prepare for the season and are excited to take the field in front of a FULL-STADIUM. Today, we are profiling local kid Nickolas Grieser out of New Castle, Ind.

Nicholas Grieser

Hometown: New Castle, Ind.

Position: DB

Year: Redshirt Sophomore

Height/Weight: 6-0/187

Nicholas Grieser is a hometown kid from head coach Tom Allen’s hometown, about 40 miles east of Indianapolis. Grieser played at New Castle High School and had an outstanding high school career. He earned all-state and all-conference honors. Grieser was a dual-sport athlete playing four years of football, three years of basketball, and three years of track. At IU, Grieser is studying Biochemistry.

A walk-on during the 2019 camp Grieser redshirted during the season. The following season 2020, he did not see the field but earned defensive scout player of the week against Michigan State. Grieser is a team player and willing to do whatever it takes to make the program better. He will line up at cornerback and wideout.

High school coach Kyle York described him as a ‘glue guy for his team. “I told our staff, if we could have 11 Nicholas Griesers, we would be a phenomenal football team," New Castle coach Kyle York said in an article published by the StarPress last fall. "He's a guy that you can not win football games, play hard football teams without him. He's our glue. He holds us together. He's incredibly smart and incredibly versatile. And he lulls you to sleep a little bit. You don't really think he's that fast or that hard of a tackler. But he consistently finds a way to make plays."

Grieser’s ability to do whatever it takes to make the team better shows what Tom Allen likes on his team. While Grieser won’t get the recognition from the media that he deserves, I’m sure that he is respected and appreciated as much as any other player within the program.
