Game Wrap-up & Reaction: Week 2 Navy

Game Wrap-up & Reaction: Week 2 Navy

Let’s take a step back from the ledge and take this game for what it is.  One loss, that’s all it is.  The Hoosiers reverted back to their 2012 form when it came to getting off to a slow start in a 41-35 loss to the Navy Midshipmen.  While the loss hurts, the season is not over and the Hoosiers still have a good shot at going to a bowl.

Why They Played:  This game was the second in a home-and-home series between the Mids and the Hoosiers.  Navy is a brand name and brought a great crowd with them to create a festive atmosphere where the Indiana Athletic Department dedicated the prow of the USS Indiana and the new flagpole inside Memorial Stadium.

What The Game Meant:

The Hoosiers were trying to build off of the 73-point performance and victory over Indiana State to get to 2-0.  For only the second time ever the Hoosiers host eight games, making this game, against a team Indiana was favored by two touchdowns, very important in the quest to make a bowl game.

Indiana Football Stock Market Report: Week Two: Navy Midshipmen

Indiana Football Stock Market Report: Week Two: Navy Midshipmen

Following Indiana’s week one win which saw them score 73 points the markets were quite bullish on Hoosiers. This week was not as kind to the Indiana Football Stock Market as a whole. There were some things to be expected, a natural regression to the mean, a considerably tougher opponent would mean less gaudy numbers. However, there were things that no one prognosticated such as the Hoosiers offense struggling in the first quarter, interesting coaching decisions and a defense that looked as if it didn’t know that Navy was going to be running the triple option.

Remember investors, it is best to buy low, so what better time than now to dive in and start diversifying your portfolio with stocks that others around the nation are shaking their head at right now. While the Hoosiers were defeated in regrettable fashion in week two, there were still some bright spots, especially on the offensive side. It surely was not the 38-point victory we witnessed in week one that was promising and turned some heads throughout the conference. We said last week that there were some very encouraging things. However, we also said that we saw some things that could go from “that didn’t look great”, to “holy crap that’s a big freakin’ problem, in the coming weeks.”

Indiana Hoosiers in the NFL

Indiana Hoosiers in the NFL

Good morning everyone. As you know last night didn’t exactly go as planned, but I have great news for you…It’s Sunday! All right, so it doesn’t necessarily make up for the debacle that was the Navy game, however it does mean that the other type of football, no not soccer, the NFL kicks off in earnest today. Sure there was the Peyton Manning (or was it John Elway?!...Come on Columbus!) tossing 7 touchdown passes against the defending champion Baltimore Ravens. Today however, marks the first day that allows you tit sit in front of the TV for back-to-back days and completely ignore the rest of your life for football.

I decided to look on the bright side this morning and look at all the talented former Hoosiers who are now playing their football on Sundays. While Indiana doesn’t have quite the numbers in the pros as many other programs, especially in the Big Ten there are still a solid group representing the Crimson and Crème. Here is a list that can help if you are looking for someone else to watch and cheer for today in addition to your team, or maybe there’s even a player you didn’t even realize was on your favorite squad. Here are the five guys, really just four due to injury, to be looking out for on Sundays this season.

Three & Out Offense: Week 2 Navy Midshipmen

Week 2 brings a tough match-up opponent for the Hoosiers as the Navy Midshipmen invade Bloomington on Saturday evening.  Indiana and Navy faced off last year in contest that the Hoosiers dropped 31-30 in heartbreaking fashion.  In order to not repeat the past Indiana must improve in several areas of the game and here are the three most important things that the Hoosiers need from their offense to come out victorious against the Midshipmen.

Big Ten Football Recruiting Power Rankings

The college football season has begun, however that is not the only thing that started recently, as coaches are now allowed to contact prospective 2015 recruits. However, our rankings only include the class at hand. Nebraska was the only school to add a commitment to their 2014 class this past week. Heading into the month of September, the Big Ten as a whole is struggling. The conference continues to be labeled as the “Big Two & Little 12”, and it is a rather accurate description of the recruiting landscape in the conference. Things have been slow around the conference as far as recruiting is concerned, and that bug has bit the Hoosiers as well. Indiana has not received a commitment since July when both Nick Carovillano and Jermane Conyers both pulled the trigger on the same day.

Without further ado, here are your Big Ten Recruiting Rankings:

Indiana Football Stock Market Report: Week One: Indiana State

Indiana Football Stock Market Report: Week One: Indiana State

Welcome to the inaugural Indiana Stock Market Report. While the Hoosier brand is not one of the gold standards in college football, we feel as if it is one that you can buy low on at the start of the season and see it pay out strong by the end of the season. With a diversified portfolio ranging from platinum level offense to a penny stock defense, we feel Indiana football should be a strong “buy” throughout the fall and winter months. This is largely due to the diversified portfolio, which we have developed for you, our savvy Hoosier Stock Market investor.

In 2012 the Indiana Hoosiers were a below average team, who displayed flashes of potential. I believe the most frustrating thing for IU fans was to watch competent offensive performances be completely wasted by a defense that was barley MAC-worthy.

While the Hoosiers were able to pull out a victory in week one, we saw much of the same in their home opener on Thursday night. A monstrous offensive output, combined with a lackluster defensive performance. While not the same team as last year, there were still plenty of reasons to be concerned moving forward.

Even though we saw a 38-point victory, while witnessing some very encouraging things, we also saw some things that could go from that didn’t look great, to holy crap that’s a big freakin’ problem, in the coming weeks.

Game Wrap Up & Reaction: Week 1

How was that for some opening night fireworks?  The Hoosiers covered all the bases both good and bad.  There was a running game and an aerial attack that could not be stopped.  There was also a defense that forced two turnovers.  However there were bad penalties, stupid turnovers, and missed tackles.  The Hoosiers set records for the most points scored at Memorial Stadium by any team, returned their first punt for a touchdown since 2006, and scored more points in the first half since 1949.  Overall it was a fun night, but there are still many aspects that need to be cleaned up.
