Ryder Anderson’s Team First Attitude Stands Out During Spring Practice

The Indiana Hoosiers wrapped up their spring practice on April 10th and head coach Tom Allen and his staff awarded grad transfer defensive lineman Ryder Anderson high praise. Anderson comes to IU from Ole Miss, where the lineman was a pain in the rear end for the Hoosiers offense and gave his new team a first-handle glimpse of what they hope he can bring to Bloomington. Anderson was so impressive during spring practice that he shared the Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award with Micah McFadden. However,, it was not only Anderson’s play on the field that earned him the award, it was his team first attitude that impressed Allen the most.

Indiana Head Coach Tom Allen and his Hoosiers closed out their fifteenth and final spring practice this past Saturday. Unfortunately, they were unable to put a bow on this portion of the offseason with a spring game we are accustomed to seeing, but the coaching staff was still able to hand out spring practice player awards. The awards were full of familiar player names: Cam Jones, Micah McFadden, Peyton Hendershot, Devon Matthews, among numerous others. Mixed in with these program stars, however, is a player not many Hoosier fans know:
Hoosiers Announce 2020 Awards at Annual Football Banquet

The Indiana football program held their annual awards banquet on Thursday night to commemorate the 2020 season in which the Hoosiers finished 12th in the AP Poll with a record of 6-2. Tom Allen gave out 19 awards to 26 different players. The ceremony was also highlighted by the inaugural Chris Beaty Award, an award given in honor of Chris Beaty, a former Hoosier football player who walked on to the team and was killed last summer trying to thwart a robbery. The Indiana Hoosiers are taking on one of the most explosive offenses in the country in the Ole Miss Rebels when they play in the Outback Bowl. The Rebels ill be without several key players on offense and could be out more when it comes time for kickoff, but they are still a scary offense. The Hoosiers will need to focus on these keys to come away with a win on Saturday.

The Indiana Hoosiers had a pair of players honored on Monday as the Associated Press All-American teams were announced. Wide receiver Ty Fryfogle and linebacker Micah McFadden earned third-team All-American honors from the AP for their efforts in helping IU to a 6-1 regular season.

Pair of Hoosiers Earn Conference Players of the Week Honors

Linebacker Micah McFadden and punter Haydon Whitehead earned the Hoosiers two more Big Ten Player of the Week honors after Indiana’s 14-6 win over the Wisconsin Badgers. McFadden led the way on defense with two sacks and nine tackles while Whitehead pinned the Wisconsin offense inside their own 20-yard line four times and averaged 40.5 yards per punt.

It was a challenge from start to finish in Madison for the No. 12 Hoosiers that ended up holding the No. 16 Badgers back 14-6. Indiana cracked down hard on Wisconsin on the final drive to avoid possible overtime and hold Wisconsin to just two field goals.
