When Indiana head coach Tom Allen met with the media on Monday afternoon he announced that starting running back Cole Gest has been lost for the season due to an ACL tear.

Gest, a redshirt sophomore, played in three games as a freshman before receiving a medical redshirt. He rushed for 47 yards on 10 carries in 2016.

Gest played in 10 games a season ago and was Indiana's second leading rusher with 428 yards and a touchdown on 93 carries. He added 83 yards and a score on 10 catches.

Gest was named the starting running back after Morgan Ellison was suspended indefinitely before the start of the season. Before getting hurt early in the second quarter, Gest rushed five times for 17 yards and had a 10 yard reception.

The Hoosiers will look at Stevie Scott, who led the team in rushing in the win against FIU, Ronnie Walker, a former four-star recruit, Mike Majette and Ricky Brookins on the roster to fill-in the hole at running back.
