Wake up Hoosier Nations its Game Day!!! Get your grills and coolers ready for the start of what will be a memorable 2014 season as the Hoosiers kick off the year against the Indiana State Sycamores. Grab a camping chair or a seat on the grass and take a look at the three keys to victory for the Hoosiers on defense.

1. Does New Equal Better?- It is finally time for new defensive coordinator Brian Knorr to show the world if his 3-4 scheme will improve the Hoosier defense. The more aggressive and attacking scheme should play to IU’s strength. If IU can hold the Sycamores to fewer than 14 points and 250 yards the Hoosiers will have taken the first step forward in a long journey.

2. Push on the Defensive Line- The key to any successful defense is whether or not their defensive line can get into the backfield. The Hoosiers have a plethora of returning talent and depth. Guys like Bobby Richardson, Ralph Green III, and Darius Latham should be able to have their way with the Sycamore offensive line. A good start will go a long way to boost the hopes and confidence of a team that sorely needs a feel good moment on defense.

3. Create Big Plays- In 2013 the Hoosier D made some big plays during the season, however they were few and far between. The goal for this defense is to get the ball back to the high-powered offense as fast as possible. The best way to do this is to create turnovers and negative plays. The Sycamores could be in for a long day if the Hoosier defenders can fly around and take the ball away.
