Scores From Around the Nation: IUFB Opponent Recap

Indiana went into the Rose Bowl and dominated UCLA for a 42-13 victory this weekend and now it is a future schedule watcher’s dream. Let’s check in on how the Hoosiers’ remaining schedule looks, how many wins can you find?

Overall Opponent Record Remaining Schedule: 18-7

Charlotte (1-2): Last Week Win vs Gardner-Webb 27-26

Charlotte spent most of the game trailing, but they were able to overcome a 17-point deficit and defeat Gardner Webb last weekend. True-freshman quarterback Deshawn Purdie, filling in for the injured Max Brown, was ultimately replaced by Trexler Ivey in the 4th quarter after a tough performance (0.8 QBR). Ivey led the Niners to three consecutive touchdown drives in the 4th quarter to escape by a point and notch the first victory of the season.

Maryland (2-1): Last Week Win vs Virginia 27-13

Tai Felton continues to be a matchup nightmare for defenses and tacked on nine receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown on Saturday to defeat Virginia. UVA had four turnovers, two picks and two fumbles, one of the interceptions coming from Dante Trader Jr, who was awarded Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. Turner also had 11 tackles and led a defense that kept the Cavaliers scoreless in the second half.

Northwestern (2-1): Last Week Win vs Eastern Illinois 31-7

Mike Wright was benched going into this game and in stepped quarterback Jack Lausch, who had a solid 20-of-31 day for 227 yards and two touchdowns. He started slow – he was 2-of-10 to start the game before the final drive of the first half – but eventually settled down and was able to lead the Wildcats to victory behind an always strong defensive performance. Their first Big Ten game of the year kicks off next week when they travel to Washington, so we will see how Lausch responds on the road against a tougher opponent.

Nebraska (3-0): Last Week Win vs Northern Iowa 34-3

Nebraska continued its strong start to begin this season, reaching 3-0 for the first time since 2016 with an easy victory over FCS foe Northern Iowa. Raiola was rather surgical once again, completing 17 of his 23 passes for 247 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception. If you’re looking for cause for concern, Northern Iowa did a decent job controlling the line of scrimmage and did win the time of possession 38 to 22; with the nonconference schedule behind them, now the season will truly begin for the Cornhuskers.

Washington (2-1): Last Week Loss vs Washington State 24-19

Penalties plagued the Huskies big time in the 116th edition of the Apple Cup; a week after being flagged eight times for 100 yards, Washington followed it up this week with 16 penalties for 135 yards. The game came down to its last possession, but the WSU Cougars came up with a massive fourth-down stop inside their own 2-yard line to hold off Washinton.

Michigan State (3-0): Last Week Win vs Prairie View A&M 40-0

The Spartans made easy work of a tune-up game before their matchup with Boston College this week, shutting out Prairie View in East Lansing. Aidan Chiles threw for a touchdown and added another on the ground, while Charles Brantly returned an interception a school-record 100 yards for a score.

Michigan (2-1): Last Week Win vs Arkansas State 28-18

The game was never really in doubt (Arkansas State scored 15 points in the final five minutes to make the final score look close), but the Wolverines officially have a problem at quarterback. Three interceptions from Davis Warren kept this from being a blowout and prior to their matchup against USC this week, Sherrone Moore has already announced that Alex Orji will takeover quarterbacking duties. The 11th ranked Trojans have to travel east to Ann Arbor for the game, but the offense has a lot of questions that need answered to avoid a repeat of the Texas game.

Ohio State (2-0): Last Week BYE

The Buckeyes were idle last week but will take on Marshall this Saturday in their final nonconference tune up before Big Ten play.

Purdue (1-1): Last Week Loss vs Notre Dame 66-7

The Irish took out some frustration from last week’s Northern Illinois upset and hung 49 on the scoreboard before the Boilers scored their first points. Hudson Card was unable to build on his strong opening week performance, finishing 11-of-24 for 124 yards, a touchdown, and 2 interceptions. After that team performance with two weeks to prepare, Purdue will be reevaluating things as they’ll look to bounce back against Oregon State next week.
