Tom Allen and the Hoosiers were quick to fill the vacancy left by Charlton Warren who departed the Indiana program over the weekend. On Monday morning a 247Sports report was confirmed to Hoosier Huddle that Minnesota defensive line coach Chad Wilt will be the new IU defensive coordinator.

Wilt spent the last two seasons as the Gophers defensive line coach. Prior to that he was at Cincinnati in the same position. Overall, Wilt has 20 years of coaching college football on the defensive side of the ball.

This pas season, he helped Minnesota build a successful defensive line that was part of a unit that finished second in the conference in scoring defense. He has also put a handful of players into the NFL and this year’s draft should feature a couple more of his former pupils.

Wilt has not been a coordinator for a defense. He served as Liberty’s Special Teams Coordinator from 2006-08. He also has a strong recruiting background serving as Ball State’s Recruiting Coordinator in 2013. Having a former defensive coordinator as the head coach should help make the transition easier for Wilt.
