Latest Loss for the Hoosiers Raises More Questions About the Program's Direction

A program that was built on love for each other is now crumbling in frustration and loss. A program that was 14-7 during the 2019 and 2020 seasons is now 5-16 during the last two seasons. The Hoosiers have now lost six-straight games.
The Hoosiers could not hold their own at home against Penn State yesterday. IU started quarterback Jack Tuttle, who decided to enter the transfer portal two weeks prior. That in itself is all you need to know about the current state of the Indiana Football program.
Tuttle ended up suffering an injury from terrible offensive line play. He took multiple shots before finally hobbling off the field holding his right arm. Tuttle was hurt last season. As well as the season prior
“We have to do a better job of moving the football. It starts up front. We have to do a better job in that area. It’s not good enough. It is killing us,” said Allen on the offensive line.
“Jack did some good things. He got injured and we’re still trying to figure out the final diagnosis on him,” said Tom Allen on Quarterback Jack Tuttle.
I’ve said since before the season that it would not matter who was at Quarterback if the Offense line could not block and that was the case yesterday.
After Tuttle got hurt, Freshman back-up Brenden Sorbsy was called upon, who has less than a year in the program. Compare that to Dexter Williams who has had over two years in the program.
It is baffling as to why Williams did not come in after Tuttle and in fact did not start. Williams was the only quarterback that current Washington Head Coach Kalen DeBoer, who was than Indiana’s offensive coordinator.
“Both quarterbacks are very similar and have a lot of talent. Dexter did some really good things. There’s no doubt about it. They will both be a big part of our future,” said Allen after the game.
Fans and some players are still wondering why Williams did not start. But the double whammy is the fact he did not take over after Jack Tuttle got hurt.
The blame should be on everyone in the program. From top to bottom. The athletic department, the coaches, the players. You name it.
I applaud the fans and especially the students for showing up and filling up most of the student section.
There are few positives to talk about the Hoosiers on offense.. They scored one touchdown thanks to a great play and awareness by Tuttle who saw open receiver AJ Barner in the end zone. After that, the Hoosiers scored a garbage-time touchdown. A one-yard run by freshman Jaylin Lucas.
Yesterday confirmed that the fears of the Hoosier faithful. Hoosiers are the worst football program in the Big Ten. While many did not expect a victory Saturday, what they saw was too reminiscent of last year when IU flat out quit the last quarter of the season.
