In a statement released by Indiana Athletics Monday evening head coach Kevin Wilson clarified the lengths of suspensions given to the nine players prior to the game last Saturday. Here is the full release:
I want to clarify my comments from earlier today. All nine players listed prior to the season opener against Southern Illinois were suspended for that game, eight of whom had a one-game suspension. (Linebacker) Tegray Scales was given a two-game suspension, which he will finish serving at Saturday's game against Florida International.
Here is Wilson's statement on the suspensions Monday morning when he met with the media:
I want to quickly address, not in a bad way, but after the game the comments of nine guys suspended. We had nine guys not available. If they were suspended they wouldn't have dressed, they wouldn't have traveled. They weren't allowed to play in the game. Our decision. Our program has standards we live up to. And when you miss the game, you miss the next game.
