Jason Spriggs selected by the Green Bay Packers

Written By Alex Compton

After much anticipation, Jason Spriggs finally heard his name called in the second round, Spriggs was selected #48 overall by the Green Bay Packers.

Spriggs was the fifth offensive tackle taken, and was taken right around the range that most analysts had him ranked at. Scouts raved about Spriggs’ athleticism and footwork, and project him as a really solid starter for years to come. Spriggs went after fellow tackles Ronnie Stanley (Notre Dame), Jack Conklin (Michigan State), Laremy Tunsil (Ole Miss), and Taylor Decker (Ohio State). He also became the tenth player from the Big Ten to be taken, along with Joey Bosa, Ezekiel Elliot, Jack Conklin, Eli Apple, Taylor Decker, Derron Lee, Austin Johnson, Jihad Ward, and Michael Thomas.

Last year at Indiana, Spriggs started every game and was named an All-American. Spriggs was a member of Indiana’s 2012 recruiting class, and came to Bloomington ranked as a three-star tight end. After anchoring IU’s line for the last few seasons, one of the biggest challenges for this year’s team will be to replace him. None of that matters tonight however, as all of Hoosier Nation is incredibly proud to call Jason Spriggs one of their own.

As the NFL season wears on, we will be sure to keep up with Spriggs’ progress and production in Green Bay. In order to start, he will have to beat out David Bakhtiari at left tackle. With Eddie Lacey at running back and Aaron Rogers at quarterback, Spriggs will be under a microscope as an edge protector for those two.

Check back on the site tomorrow, as we will have up to the minute coverage on the remaining IU draft prospects, as well as a general Big Ten roundup as well. The start of next season will be here before you know it!
