Jacob Mangum-Farrar Looks the Part of a Playmaker for IU's Defense

When the Hoosiers hits the field in 2023 there will be plenty of new faces, but one on defense stands out and looks the part of a potential playmaker on defense. That player is Jacob Mangum-Farrar, a 6’4” 241-pound linebacker who transferred to Indiana by way of Stanford. Mangum-Farrar has the type of frame that makes you lean over to the person next to you and whisper "‘who is that guy’?

Mangum-Farrar played in 26 games at Stanford between 2018 and 2022. He did miss the 2020 season with an injury. Last season he made 44 tackle with a season-high 10 in a win over Notre Dame. The Hoosiers are looking for Mangum-Farrar to be a playmaker off the edge or at the linebacker position.

“He's 6'4" 240lbs. and very, very bright. graduate from Stanford and very, very versatile. Yes. I think he's well I think they can do for us from a package perspective because a lot of flexibility with that. And I expect to use you in those ways. In both as a traditional inside linebacker, and also as an edge guy.” Allen said after the Hoosiers second spring practice.

The Hoosiers struggled pressuring the quarterback as they finished 11th in the Big Ten in sacks produced. Mangum-Farrar could fit the role that Dasan McCullough played last year for the Hoosiers. While he does not have the star power of McCullough, he brings experience and production to the table.

Mangum-Farrar had a sticker on his laptop at Stanford that shows a bridge with ‘Be Someone’ painted on it in graffiti in a tribute to his hometown of Houston. The Hoosiers are hoping that Mangum-Farrar will ‘Be Someone’ for their defense in 2023.

The Hoosiers resumed spring practice on Tuesday with their fourth session of the spring. IU will wrap up their spring season with a “Spring Football Event” on Saturday, April 15th.
