According to a report from Jon Blau of the Bloomington Herald Times Indiana Hoosier tight end Peyton Hendershot was arrested Saturday night in Bloomington on multiple charges.

Blau wrote that, “According to jail records, Hendershot was booked into Monroe County Jail on preliminary charges of felony residential entry, as well as misdemeanors for domestic battery, criminal mischief, and criminal conversion.”

An Indiana University spokesman gave the Bloomington Herald Times the following statement:

“Indiana University Athletics is aware of the arrest of redshirt sophomore Peyton Hendershot,” a department spokesperson said. “IU Athletics will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal and administrative processes, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.”

UPDATED INFORMATION:

According to a Bloomington PD news release, the charges stem from an incident involving a former girl friend. He allegedly entered her residence without permission and accused her of cheating and grabbed her cell phone to look at phone calls and text messages. The report alleges the Hendershot “grabbed her by the neck and shoved her against the wall.” Hendershot allegedly threw the phone into the kitchen, causing the screen to break, before exiting the residence. The alleged victim called 911 and Hendershot was taken into custody at his residence.

This is an evolving situation and will have updates as facts continue to come out.

Hendershot, who is recovering from off-season surgery, was an AL—Big Ten selection after a school-record season for a tight end where he caught 52 passes for 622 yards and five touchdowns.

The Hoosiers are set to open spring practice on March 7th and will hold their annual spring game on April 17th.
