The Indiana football program announced in a press release on Tuesday evening that starting quarterback Michael Penix will miss the remainder of the 2019 season after having surgery to correct a sternoclavicular joint injury . Penix started six games for the Hoosiers this season and completed 68.75-percent of his passes for 1,394 yards, 10 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Penix missed time earlier in the season with two other injuries and was sidelined after just three games with an ACL tear in 2018.

“We feel really bad for Mike," Indiana head coach Tom Allen said in the release. "He's worked extremely hard and had a great season. He'll recover from this and get bigger and stronger this offseason. Mike has a very bright future with the Hoosiers."

The Hoosiers will turn to redshirt junior quarterback Peyton Ramsey to take over the starting duties while redshirt freshman Jack Tuttle moves to the primary backup. Ramsey has been terrific off the bench this season. He has completed 113-of-157 passes (72%) for 1,302 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Hoosiers will be on their second open week of 2019 this week before taking on Penn State in Happy Valley on November 16th. The Hoosiers conclude the season with a home date against the Michigan Wolverines and a trip to West Lafayette to take on the Purdue Boilermakers in the battle for the Old Oaken Bucket.
