The Indiana Athletic Department announced Monday that the Hoosiers will renew their rivalry with the Ball State Cardinals as part of a three game series starting in 2018. IU will host BSU in 2018 and 2020 at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. Ball State is trying to move the 2019 game to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Despite being just a few hours down the road from each other the Hoosiers and Cardinals have met just seven times. IU holds the series edge four wins to three, but BSU has won the last three. The last meeting was in 2012, a 41-39 Ball State victory. The Hoosiers are also scheduled to host the Cardinals on September 10, 2016.

Indiana Athletic Director Fred Glass said, "we are thrilled to continue this series with Ball State, it's great for the fans of both programs and playing another state school has added benefit of our financial support remaining within the state of Indiana." The matchup usually draws a good crowd as it has averaged 38,639 fans in the five games at Memorial Stadium, however if Glass is scheduling Ball State just to save money that is a mistake. Personally, I would like to see this series be permanent and possibly start a trophy for the series. The series is basically even and IU could use another instate game for fans of both teams to get fired up about.
