Hoosiers in the NFL: Week 12

Seven former Hoosier football players took the field during week 12 of the NFL season. With a slew of games throughout the week, let’s take a look at how each IU grad is doing.

Rodger Saffold, LG, Tennessee Titans (8-3)

Rodger Saffold and the Tennessee Titans dominated the Colts in a must-win game in Indianapolis. Saffold and the Titans’ O-line paved the way for 229 rushing yards and 440 yards of total offense against the Colts’ vaunted defense. Tennessee posted 35 points by halftime and 45 for the game and now sit alone atop the AFC South. One year removed from losing to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, Saffold and the Titans look poised for another successful offseason.

Jordan Howard, RB, Philadelphia Eagles (3-7-1)

Jordan Howard was inactive for the Eagles loss at home to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. Howard hopes to see the field before the end of the season as he returned to Philly after the Eagles picked the former Hoosier running back off of waivers.

Tevin Coleman, RB, San Francisco 49ers (5-6)

Tevin Coleman remains out with a sprained knee for the 49ers as they creep their way back into a playoff spot. Coleman has battled injuries dating back to last season and hopes he can make a return to the field before the season ends.

Nate Sudfeld, QB, Philadelphia Eagles (3-7-1)

Nate Sudfeld remains slotted as the Eagles’ third string QB. The former Hoosier QB was inactive for Philadelphia’s loss to the Seahawks.

Dan Feeney, LG, Los Angeles Chargers (3-8)

Dan Feeney and the Chargers couldn’t pull off the upset against the Bills. Feeney and the LA offensive line helped pave the way for 367 yards of total offense, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Buffalo’s balanced attack. Feeney has been playing center lately, showing off his versatility and range as a blocker.

Ian Thomas, TE, Carolina Panthers (4-8)

The Panthers lost a heartbreaker to the Vikings, surrendering 18 fourth quarter points and a late touchdown to lose by one point. Tight end Ian Thomas caught one pass for four yards. The former Hoosier 13 receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown this season.

Wes Martin, OL, Washington Football Team (4-7)

Wes Martin was active for the Washington Football Team’s huge victory over the Dallas Cowboys. In what was a duel between former IU linemen – Martin from Washington versus Brandon Knight on Dallas – Martin played a handful of offensive snaps and was utilized on special teams in Washington’s win. The Football Team is now in sole possession of first place of the NFC East at 4-7.

Brandon Knight, OL, Dallas Cowboys (3-8)

The Cowboys got the doors blown off them in a pivotal game. However, there was good news for former Hoosier lineman Brandon Knight. Knight was active and played 90% of Dallas’ offensive snaps on Sunday after missing time due to a knee scope. Knight hopes to earn a more permanent role on the Cowboys offensive line now that he’s healthy and back on the field.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, WR, Tennessee Titans (8-3)

Westbrook-Ikhine saw some snaps on special teams in Tennessee’s massive win against the Colts in Indianapolis. Westbrook-Ikhine did not record a statistic in the victory.

Jason Spriggs, OT, Chicago Bears (5-6)

Jason Spriggs was active for the Bears embarrassing beat down against the Packers on Monday Night Football. Spriggs has fulfilled a backup role on Chicago’s offensive line and has seen snaps on special teams.
Simon Stepaniak, OL, Green Bay Packers (8-3)

Simon Stepaniak was inactive for the Packers dominant win on Sunday Night Football over the Chicago Bears.

Tegray Scales, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers (9-0)

Tegray Scales is currently a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad as he works to carve out a role in the league.
