The wait is over. Lawrence North (Ind.) wide receiver Omar Cooper signed with the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday afternoon after rumors swirled that he was going to hold out until February to see how he meshes with Indiana’s new offensive coordinator Walt Bell.

Cooper committed to IU in early July. Allen Trieu of 247 Sports says Cooper “has solid size at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, and is a good athlete whose mother played college basketball, and Omar himself is a good basketball player. Tracks the ball in the air well and comes down with 50-50 balls. He does a good job of positioning himself and then using his leaping ability and strong hands from there. He does not look like a straight-line burner, but he has stop-start ability as a route runner and shows some elusiveness and enough speed as a return man and after the catch to be dangerous in the open field. Has been productive for two years and his a good combination of physical gifts and positional skills. Suffered a knee injury during his junior basketball season but looked recovered early into his senior year.”

Cooper was a high school teammate of Indiana quarterback Donaven McCulley and Allen and company hope they can rekindle their connection. For his career at Lawrence North, Cooper made 134 catches for 2,827 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Cooper figures to compete right away for time in the wide receiver rotation. He is listed at six-foot-one and 185 pounds.
