BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana's 2016 season opener at Florida International on Thursday, Sept. 1, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised by ESPNU, it was announced today. IU earned a 36-22 victory last season in the first meeting between the two programs.
Four Indiana kick times are now official. The Hoosiers Big Ten opener against Michigan State on Saturday, Oct. 1, will air on BTN in primetime at Memorial Stadium. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
IU's 104th Homecoming game against Nebraska on Oct. 15 will start at 3:30 p.m. Indiana's Oct. 22 road contest against Northwestern is scheduled for an 11 a.m. CT/noon ET start. Television designations will be made on a six- or 12-day basis.
En route to its New Era Pinstripe Bowl appearance last season, IU finished first in total offense, passing offense and scoring offense, while placing second in rushing offense in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers became the first team since Ohio State in 1995 to lead the league in total, passing and scoring offense.
Indiana led the Big Ten in scoring offense for the first time since the league began using the entire season as the statistical champion in 1985. IU had not led the league in total offense since 1988.
The Hoosiers became the fourth college football team to have a 3,500-yard passer, a pair of 1,000-yard running backs and a 1,000-yard receiver in the same year. Indiana was also one of only two Power Five conference teams with two 1,000-yard running backs (Baylor).
IU kicks off its seven-game home schedule against Ball State on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Hoosiers also host Wake Forest (Sept. 24), the Spartans, the Cornhuskers, Maryland (Oct. 29), Penn State (Nov. 12) and Purdue (Nov. 26).
