Hoosiers Reportedly Hire USF's Tom Allen as New Defensive Coordinator

As first reported by Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times, it looks as if the Hoosiers have hired Tom Allen to be their defensive coordinator. Allen served in the same position last year for USF. Indiana has not commented on the report yet, but USF coach Willie Taggart told the Tampa Bay Times that, "Tom notified me Friday that he had accepted an offer to become defensive coordinator at another program."

Allen is from New Castle, Indiana and has plenty of ties to the Hoosier state. Allen served as defensive coordinator at Ben Davis High School from 1997-2003 according to his bio on the USF athletics site. He became head coach at Ben Davis in 2004 before taking the special teams coordinator position at Wabash College.

Allen has 23 years of coaching experience and ran a 4-2-5 defense at USF last season. The Bulls finished fourth in the American Athletic Conference in total defense (380.5 ypg), recorded 17 interceptions, and averaged 7.5 tackles for loss per game, which was good for a tie for 13th in the nation.

Although it has not been confirmed yet by Indiana University, the move likely means that Brian Knorr's stint as defensive coordinator for the Hoosiers is over after just two seasons.
