The Indiana Hoosiers got some much needed good news for their defense as Tom Allen and his staff secured the commitment from graduate transfer defensive lineman Jován Swann from Stanford. The Greenwood, Indiana native made his decision to return to his home state on Twitter.
“All glory be to God, first and foremost! Thank you Stanford University for a great four years, on and off the field, and the amazing opportunity to earn my degree and to make some amazing connections. I have completed my process of finding a home for my final year of eligibility, after many prayers and great discussions. To all my support system, near and far, and the rest of Indiana, I am staying home this time and am committed to Indiana University! Thank you God, all of my Family and friends, and Indiana University! #ManOnAMission #LEO”
Swaan played in 39 games in his four-year career at Stanford, he redshirted the 2016 season. Swaan had made 85 career tackles, 18.5 career tackles for loss along with 11.5 career sacks. In 2018 he was an Honorable Mention All-Pac12 selection after posting 28 tackles, seven TFLs and 4.5 sacks. He is also a two-time Academic All-Pac12 selection as well.
The Hoosier defense tied for eighth in the conference in sacks (27) in 2019 and needed a playmaker to step up. Swaan gives the Hoosiers a very talented veteran who will come in and be an instant contributor, likely at the three-technique defensive tackle position.
