In a week that would have culminated in the 2020 Cream and Crimson Spring Game, Indiana Athletics is giving Hoosier fans their football fix as their ‘Hoosier Classics’ series will re-broadcast six classic Indiana football games. The game will be shown in its entirety on on either the IUHoosiers All Access page on Facebook or on the @IndianaFootball Twitter page.

The first game to air a 1999 matchup between the Hoosiers and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Indiana entered the game at 3-4 (2-2) in the Big Ten while the Hawkeyes were a struggling 1-5 (0-3) team. The Hoosiers were coming off a 59-0 blowout loss at eventual Big Ten champion Wisconsin the week before and were desperate to get back on track.

Sophomore quarterback Antwaan Randle El led the Hoosier offense as the Hoosiers looked to pull their record back to the .500-mark at 4-4. The game was played on a sunny, but blustery 42-degree afternoon in front of an announced crowd of 63,777 fans inside Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.

I don’t want to give away the entire game, so we will do a recap after the game re-airs, but this is a great opportunity for Hoosier fans to either relive a game from the Randle El Era or give the younger fans a chance to see why he is such a legend in Indiana Football history. The game also featured Hoosier great Levron Williams, a big receiving afternoon from wide receiver Jerry Dorsey and a 15-tackle performance from Sharrod Wallace. In all four Hoosiers would finish with 10-plus tackles. The Hawkeyes were led by running back Ladell Betts, receiver Kevin Kasper and quarterback Scott Mullen on offense while the defense was anchored by Fred Barr’s 12-tackle performance. Future NFL standouts Robert Gallery and tight end Dallas Clark were both freshmen for Iowa and Clark was listed as a linebacker.

For all of you stat geeks out there, this game has a wild box score that has Iowa out gaining Indiana 552-357 while the Hawkeyes also picked up 29 first downs compared to Indiana’s 13.

So grab a beverage, some snacks and any other game day trinkets and join us and Hoosier fans from around the world on a trip to Iowa City for the 1999 matchup between the Hoosiers and the Hawkeyes at 7pm ET.
