#93

Hoosier Huddle is helping you countdown the days to the return of IU football by profiling a player each day as we march towards the season kick-off against Southern Illinois. Today, we take a look at #93, defensive tackle Ralph Green III

Ralph Green III

Height: 6’5”
Weight: 315 pounds
Hometown: San Antonio, Texas
Year/Position: Redshirt Junior/Defensive Tackle

Ralph Green is one of the most important pieces of the IU defensive line. The big Texan has played in 23 of 24 games in the last two seasons and has posted some very solid numbers. As a freshman Green recorded 25 tackles, a sack, 4.5 tackles for a loss, and blocked two field goals. He was named co-freshman of the week for his performance against Ohio State and made both the Collegefootballnews.com All-freshman team and the BTN.com All-freshman team as an honorable mention. Green followed up his 2013 season with a 2014 campaign that was not as impressive. In 11 games he racked up 19 tackles, a sack, and 4.5 tackles for loss. The change to a 34 defense may have impacted Green’s numbers in 2014, in addition to the solid play from freshman Nate Hoff.
Green’s future with the Hoosiers is in jeopardy after his arrest on a misdemeanor battery charge in April. He has been suspended from all team activities as of this posting. Whether or not he is with the team when they take the field on September 5th is still in question.
