#66

The Hoosier Huddle Countdown to Kick-off has begun! There are now 66 days until the Indiana Hoosiers kick-off the 2017 season against the Ohio State Buckeyes. That seems like a long way away and I suppose it is, but this countdown will fly by and it will be football season before we know it! Today’s countdown takes a look at #66 Tristen Watts.

Tristen Watts

-Height: 6’2”
-Weight: 230 pounds
-Hometown: Evansville, Indiana
-Position: Defensive Line

Tristen Watts is another in-state player that joined the program as a walk-on, earning his spot last season. After getting on the team he ended up redshirting to preserve his four years of eligibility. Not much is known about Watts since he redshirted last year, but the bio on IUHoosiers.com for him is very impressive. “Defensive lineman for head coach Mike Goebel at Mater Dei High School ... 2015 honorable mention all-state ... also earned all-city, all-metro and all-conference honors ... Mater Dei reached the 2014 state championship game ... school won two sectional, city and conference championships ... two-year football letterwinner ... 2015 Academic All-State and two-time Academic All-City ... parents are Jamie and B.J. Watts ... born on April 19, 1998, Tristen Wayne Watts intends to study biology.”

IU should be pretty solid up front on defense next year, but you always need capable bodies in the trenches. That doesn’t necessarily mean he will be helping out in the games, but Watts can be a really solid guy to have in your program because he is from Indiana and he is a solid athlete.  He played on some big time teams at Mater Dei and was one of the better players in the state. If Watts can work hard in practice and carve out a role, he might be able to crack the rotation down the line.
