It’s game week and the Hoosiers are set to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini to kick-off the 2022 season. Today we look at one of the glue players on defense, linebacker Cam Jones.

Cam Jones (Senior+)

Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 228 Pounds

Position: Linebacker

Cam Jones will be the heartbeat of the defense in 2022. After an awful 2021 season for the Hoosiers, Jones along with quarterback Jack Tuttle met with head coach Tom Allen and gave a presentation to the team. There’s a reason he’s a three-time team captain.

Jones arrived at IU with high expectations and started his career playing IUs husky position and played in 11 games as a freshman.

During his sophomore season, Jones transitioned to the stinger linebacker position, where he still plays today. In a reserve role he made 35 tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown.

2020 was Jones’ breakout campaign at linebacker. After posting 35 tackles and three sacks he earned All-Big Ten honorable mention.

While last season was a lost one for the Hoosiers, Jones was one of the bright spots that kept IU’s hope alive for as long as possible. Jones made 64 tackles and received IU’s Howard Brown Award for his dedication to IU football.

This season, Jones is expected to lead the defense back to their level of play in 2020 and help offset the loss of Micah McFadden.
