The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff is officially underway! At day 96, we’re going to take a look at redshirt sophomore DL Shamar Jones.
Shamar Jones comes into his second year on the active roster with extremely high hopes. After playing all 12 games in 2019, Jones is looking to move into more of an active role on the defensive front. With eight total tackles, two of which were for losses, Jones will be starting the 2020 season with a vengeance.
Jones enjoyed an extremely successful high school career before making the journey to Bloomington in 2018 as a top 30 prospect in Pennsylvania according to ESPN. The powerful defensive lineman was able to lead his alma mater to back to back district championships, and rounded his career off with an invitation to the 2017 Blue-Grey All American Bowl. Notable stats from his high school career include an impressive 244 tackles, 34.5 for loss, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and three defensive touchdowns.
After showing what he can do in 2019, Jones will provide great flexibility to shore up the defensive front where needed, especially with graduating defensive linemen Gavin Everett and Allen Stallings IV leaving the program.
