Part Two of Day 93 of Hoosier Huddle’s Countdown to kickoff features incoming freshman defensive lineman Caleb Murphy. Murphy was an in-state recruit and grew up about an hour south of Bloomington.

Another member of the most recent recruiting class, Caleb Murphy is a player that was destined to be coached by Tom Allen. Get this: he’s a hard-working, small-town Indiana, son of a preacher, wrestler and football player… the ideal personality for Allen. Murphy joined the program as an early enrollee and participated in the couple practices before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the campus in March.
Murphy was a 3-star prospect by 247Sports and compiled 16 offers during his recruitment process, but none were as special to him as his offer from Tom Allen and the Indiana Hoosiers. Murphy envisioned strapping up for the cream and crimson his entire life, so much so that he committed the same day that he received his offer.
“I spent most of my life an hour south of Bloomington and have always watched IU football games and every time I got a chance to up to Bloomington, I loved the culture of the team, the coaches and they have a great media school,” Murphy said after his commitment.
Murphy’s best trait is his motor. Nothing stops him from achieving his goals. For example, when his high school was too small to have a wrestling program, but he wanted to be a wrestler, he started the West Washington High School program himself. Where some see dead ends, Murphy sees bumps along the road, which makes him a great fit for the culture Allen is creating at IU.
