Countdown to 2020 IUFB Kickoff: 93 Days Part 1 (Charles Campbell)
/Written by Nathan Comp
The Hoosier Huddle countdown to kickoff continues with another double header as we are 93 days away from the scheduled kickoff of the 2020 season in Madison, Wisconsin. The first part of Day 93 belongs to kicker Charles Campbell, who will be taking over for Logan Justus.
Charles Campbell (Redshirt Sophomore)
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 171 Pounds
Hometown: Jackson, Tennessee
Position: Kicker
After a couple lost depth chart competitions for the starting kicking spot against Logan Justus, the reigns can now entirely be passed to Charles Campbell. His first two seasons with the Hoosiers have not been wasted: it can easily be argued last year’s Bucket game would not have been won without the leg of the 2017 Tennessee Mr. Football finalist, when Campbell came in when Justus was struggling and calmly connected on a 41-yarder against the Boilermakers. In fact, Campbell was named IU Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance that day. Now however, Campbell will have the full-time place-kicking responsibilities placed on his shoulders – an opportunity I’d expect him to relish.
Campbell was recruited as a part of the class of 2018. The highly decorated recruit was the 31st ranked prospect in the state of Tennessee and a three-time all-state selection. The 5th ranked kicker nationally by Rivals, Campbell earned himself an invitation to the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He was also an all-state soccer player for the University School of Jackson.
Campbell redshirted his first season on campus but saw a couple games of action in his freshman season last year. He made both of his field goal attempts and his single extra point try. His career long is 48-yards in last season’s Eastern Illinois win.
