We are under three weeks away from the kick off of the 2020 IU Football season (finally!). In the second half of our Day 19 Countdown to Kickoff we take a look at redshirt freshman Josh Sanguinetti.
Name – Josh Sanguinetti
Position – Defensive Back
Hometown – Lauderdale Lakes, FL (University School)
Height – 6’1”
Weight – 173 pounds
Sanguinetti came in as a safety from Florida as part of the 2019 recruiting class. He was an all-state selection at University School and left as the school’s career leader in interceptions with 24.
During his first season in Bloomington, Sanguinetti appeared in two games and registered one tackle as he redshirted the 2019 season. He earned Scout Team Player of the Week leading up the Ohio State game.
During the spring, Sanguinetti was moved to corner in order to build more depth at the position and give Sanguinetti a clearer path to the field. On the initial depth chart in Indiana’s media guide Sanguinetti is listed as the backup to Indiana’s star corner Tiawan Mullen.
“You look at guys like D.K. Bonhomme and Josh Sanguinetti, to name a few others, obviously C.J. Person and a number of guys along the defensive line, young players that played in sparing roles a year ago but are probably going to have a more central role involved in our defense moving forward, those are the guys that we're spending probably the most time with.” Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said back in April.
