61 days until the Hoosiers storm the field at Memorial Stadium. Today we profile redshirt freshman offensive lineman Ricky Tamis. He comes to IU all the way from the sunshine state.
Name - Ricky Tamis
Position - Offensive Lineman
Year/Hometown - Redshirt Freshman from Miami Beach, Florida
Height - 6’3”
Weight - 310 pounds
The Miami native joined his ninth grade football team “just for fun” and ended up landing a spot in the Big Ten just four years later.
“...I never really thought I would be able to take it anywhere and play in college. After my junior year I started getting calls from schools and that just motivated me to work harder and get better.” Tamis said in an interview with Peegs.com.
Before becoming a Hoosier Tamis was a two-year captain at Miami Beach Senior High School. Tamis was a Blue-Grey All-American.
The standout accepted his preferred walk-on offer from the Hoosiers last Spring. He joined the team after appearing at fall camp earlier in the year.
Although Tamis is far from sunny Miami, he has made a home in Bloomington.
“When I was at Indiana it just felt like home and everyone was extremely nice to me” Tamis said.
He has been welcomed into the IUFB family with open arms. His tweets show his dedication to the Hoosiers.
Tamis is ready to get to work this season. Fans will have to be on the lookout for this offensive lineman.
