COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: #83- C.J. Person
Weight: 297 pounds
Hometown: Montgomery, Alabama
Year: FreshmanPosition: DL
Less than 3 months remain until the long-awaited 2019 Indiana football season. The Hoosiers will make their season debut at Lucas Oil Stadium where they will take on the Ball State Cardinals in a noon game on August 31st.
Amongst the new faces on the sideline will be incoming freshman DL C.J. Person. Hailing from Montgomery, Alabama, Person was the No. 33 prospect in the state and No. 65 defensive tackle in the nation (ESPN), according to IUHoosiers.com. The 297-pound tank recorded a whopping 241 tackles, 150 solo, 15.5 sacks, 75 TFLs, nine forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one forced interception in his high school career.
The Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School standout chose Indiana over 25 other schools, and according to a Montgomery Advertiser article, cancelled his visit to Purdue after visiting Indiana. “I had another visit scheduled for Purdue, but I cancelled it because I knew Indiana was the right fit, Person told reporters on his signing day, “I didn’t want anybody trying to persuade me otherwise. I knew that was it.”
There was not a Hoosier decked out with more swag on their signing day than CJ Person on December 18, 2018. He was the center of attention, but his crimson spiked shoes were the main attraction.
Person’s size and passion for the Cream and Crimson squad make him a great asset to Hoosier defense for the next four years.
