Exactly 10 weeks remain until the long-awaited 2019 Indiana football season. The Hoosiers will make their season debut at Lucas Oil Stadium where they will take on the Ball State Cardinals on August 31st in a noon matchup.

Indiana coaching staff dedicated so much hard work and time in their pursuit to add guys to the 2019 freshman class that would make a solid impact for the years to come. Their chase was not wasted when one of their most versatile targets, Antoine Whitner, Jr. made his commitment in the early signing period.

Originally hailing from Virginia, Whitner, Jr. moved down south to Florida to attend IMG Academy where he played on both OL and DL. Ranked the No. 41 defensive tackle nationally by Rivals, the 6-foot-5, then-295-pound standout picked up offers from powerhouse programs across the nation— Florida, Oregon, Ole Miss, Nebraska, and Virginia Tech included. Whitner Jr. chose to join the cream and crimson squad instead.

“Antoine Whitner, another guy, when you talk about replacing some of those interior defensive line guys, I think could be in the mix for sure,” head Coach Tom Allen commented on National Signing Day.

Whitner, Jr. has the potential to make an immediate impact at IU. He’s filling in a crucial gap and will be one of the keys to success for the future of IU’s defense.
