Countdown to Kickoff: #53– Andrew Stamm
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 225 pounds
Hometown: Connorsville, IN (Connorsville)
Class/Position: RS SO/LB
Andrew Stamm joined the Indiana football program in 2016 as a walk-on. Tom Allen welcomed the in-state product with open arms as Stamm walked-on to the team during the season. Stamm grew up in Connersville, Indiana, playing linebacker for Connersville High School. Throughout his career, Stamm posted 312 tackles with six sacks, three interceptions, and two touchdowns. As a senior and junior in high school, Stamm was named a two-time all-conference selection and was awarded the 2016 Marine Corps Athlete of the Year.
Allen and his defensive staff love athletes who are versatile; ones who can play multiple sports. Stamm fit the bill as he was a three-year letter winner in track, sprinting, hurdling, and throwing discus. Stamm was a remarkable academic in high school, becoming the valedictorian of his class, being the president of the National Honors Society, and earning academic all-state honors.
Stamm provides the Hoosiers another body on the linebacking corps – a position where depth is a necessity this season. Stamm redshirted his first season in 2016. Although he did not see game action as a redshirt freshman, Stamm was named four-time scout team player of the week, proving to be a valuable asset to the football team. Stamm will have plenty of opportunities to contribute to IU’s defense and special teams in 2018.
